Self care is SO important.
We have to take care of ourselves in all aspects. Mentally, physically, emotionally. And sure, we know that. But how often do we actually follow through with it?
Because if we’re being honest, it’s easy to push self care to the side. You get busy, life gets overwhelming, and there are a million other things going on. No time to think about self care at all. I mean, it’s not a big deal anyways, right?
But you don’t have time?
Did you not see the line up there where I said even a few minutes a day helps? Seriously, I’m sure you can find 10 minutes in a day to cater to your mental, physical, or emotional health.
But if you still aren’t sure.. I’ve decided to help out!
I’ve put together a little challenge to help you get the self care you need and deserve, with “tasks” to help with all of the categories listed above.
I know life gets busy. But try and find a little bit of time each day to accomplish these tasks, and hopefully by the end of the week, you will feel refreshed and realize how important taking some time to help yourself really is!
So lets get started!
Take a few minutes tonight to just sit. Take a few breaths and just let your mind and body relax. Lay your head back, if only for a few minutes, and just completely relax. This is the most simple of all of the days, but I really just want you to let go of everything and prepare for the challenge and the days ahead.
Spend some time today without your phone. Take 15, 30 min + and just set it down. Lock it away if you have to. While its put away, get stuff done, perhaps? Or spend some one-on-one time with your kids if you’re a mom. Whatever you do, just enjoy it free of distraction.
Devote 20-30 minutes today cozying up with a comfort food or drink (Nice warm tea? A yummy snack?) and just chill out. Read a book, or catch up on an episode of your favorite show. But do it guilt free. Don’t let yourself feel bad for sitting down getting some “you” time in. Let go of all your negative energy and enjoy yourself.
Spend your time today with a little pampering session. Throw on a facemask, hop in a bubble bath, paint your nails. It doesn’t have to be elaborate to make yourself feel good. Enjoy yourself.
SOCIAL (OR ANTI SOCIAL) DAY
Get some social time in today. Go visit a family member today, or go grab lunch and catch up with a friend. None of these sound good? Have an ANTI-social day. Stay in and clear out your social media of all negativity and toxicity.
Spend your time today showing yourself some physical love and get moving. Spend 20-30 minutes taking a walk, doing some yoga, stretching, dancing it out, exercising, etc..
Tackling goals gives you such a sense of accomplishment. Lets tackle some today. Even small ones. Spend some time dumping some ideas or goals on paper (start small. Even if it’s just clean out the pantry) now find out the best way to tackle this goal, by creating mini goals. Crush your to-do list, check off some small goals, and give yourself a pat on the back!
MAKE A LIST OF THE THINGS YOURE GRATEFUL FOR
Sit down and throw all the stresses and negative things going on in your life to the side. Focus on the positive and the good things. Make a list of the things you’re grateful for. Sit back and look at that list when you’re feeling down to realize that even during the bad times, there is much to feel good about.
CHANGE OF SCENERY
Get out of the house and get a change of scenery. Go outside, or go do something new. But just spend 30 min out of your house and it will be a breath of fresh air.
Take care of your body internally as well as externally. Fix yourself some healthy meals today, and don’t forget to drink your water. At the very least, make yourself your favorite meal for dinner.
Treat yourself, today. Go out and buy yourself some flowers. Go get your hair done. Splurge on a new outfit, or even just go get yourself a coffee. Once again, whatever you decide to treat yourself to, today, make sure you do it guilt free. It’s totally okay to treat yourself every now and then. You deserve it.
Sit back and reflect on the challenge today. About how you felt during the past few days. Journal, write some self care ideas of your own, and most importantly: make it a priority to show yourself some love and kindness.
I hope this challenge will help a little. And more then that I hope you will start to make time for self care. Even if its just one or two days a week. Even small things. Because it’s important. YOU’RE important. Remember that.
